Working Gundogs Graded Gundog Assessments Sunday 27th March 2014
The weather held for a great morning of Grade 1 & 2 Working Gundog Assessments, we had 6 gundogs attend the session with a very experienced gundog assessor Malcom Thwaites.
All handlers and gundogs were required to demonstrate proficient heel work, sit, stay and recall with two simple retrieves at grade 1 level and those taking grade 2 needed to demonstrate the same at a higher level in addition to directional control, memory mark, hunting and stop whistle work.
The Top performer on the day was Golden Retriever Yasmin
handled by Susan March.
Yasmin only lost 1 point in her quest to complete all the Grade 1 tasks to perfection!
Susan March & Golden Retriver Grade 1 Distinction
Julie Wibley & Labrador Retriever River Grade 1 Distinction
Sam Theobald & Labrador Retriever Stanley Grade 1 Merit
We have recently covered Pip ( FTAW Toadsspannel Foxey at Northglen) with FTCH Maesydderwen Spartan both are Full Black, Working Cockers. Litter expected end of June 2014. Available beginning of September 2014.
FTCH Maesydderwen Spartan ( Scrappy)
A hard hunting, very good looking son of Skipper ( FTCH Maesydderwen Scimitar) and Dancer (FTCH Priorsmeadow Dancer.) If Skipper is the most prepotent male in the country, Dancer is surely the most prepotent bitch since Gwibernant Snake of the 80's. Snake produced 7 champions, and Dancer has produced 5 and another 2 with a "leg up" (i.e. require one more open win to achieve "Champion" status) Therefore because Scrappy is out of the most prepotent male and female in the country, it is logical to presume he will pass on all the desired qualities to his offspring.
FTAW Toadsspannel Foxey at Northglen (Pip)
Pip is the first Working Cocker owned by Professional Gundog Trainer Stewart North, this bitch has been winning Awards from the early stages of a puppy and now has 7 Field Trial Awards and 2 Open Working Test Awards, she is also fully health tested to Kennel Club Assured Breeder Standards, which is vary rare in current times.
The video below gives a brief introduction to Pip success as a working cocker.
The main reason for this proposed mating is Stewart North's desire to produce a BLACK working cocker DOG to compliment his working kennel, the stud dog chosen comes with a formidable pedigree and is totally BLACK, which is not that easy to find. Also the structure and confirmation of Pip is something Stewart wishes to replicate in future progeny.
Pip demonstrates in her demeanor everything owners enjoy about a working cocker, she is fast, stylish and no breed faults and the best temperament anyone could wish for, she has had tremendous success in the hands of novice when it comes to competing with AV Spaniels.

7th April 2014
Another tough day at the office, and another first for East
Midlands Gun dog Trainer Stewart North.
Stewart and his Working Cocker Toadspannel Foxey at
Northglen (Pip) had never been in a 3 dog run off for FIRST place in an Open AV
Spaniel Working Test, the other two dogs were English Springer Spaniels.
Unfortunately Stewart made the wrong call and kept Pip's
hunting pattern a wee too tight, this cost him first place on this occasion.
A very well organised day, nice ground, great helpers, good
judges.
Stewart & Pip came 3rd and won a bottle in the
raffle...if only every day was like this!

Working Cocker FTAW Toadspannel Foxey at Northglen (Pip) owned, trained and handled by Stewart North gained her first Open Working Test Award on Sunday 30th March 2014 at the prestigious Chatsworth Estate. Pip often finds herself competing with a number of English Springer Spaniels and holds her own when it comes hunting style, pace and drive, she is a real pleasure to watch, despite being difficult to drive at times. She handled both her mark and blind retrieve very confidently, Just let herself down a bit on steadiness when another dog was working, which denied her a higher place.
